چکیده

Consider a diffusion field induced by a finite number of localized and instantaneous sources. In this paper, we study the problem of estimating these sources (including their intensities, spatial locations, and activation time) from the spatiotemporal samples taken by a network of spatially distributed sensors. We propose two estimation algorithms, depending on whether the activation time of the sources is known. For the case of known activation time, we present an annihilating filter based method to estimate the Euclidean distances between the sources and sensors, which can be subsequently used to localize the sources. For the case of a single source but with unknown activation time, we show that the diffusion field at any spatial location is a scaled and shifted version of a common prototype function, and that this function is the unique solution to a particular differential equation. This observation leads to an efficient algorithm that can estimate the unknown parameters of the source by solving a system of linear equations. For both algorithms proposed in this work, the minimum number of sensors required is d + 1, where d is the spatial dimension of the field. This requirement is independent of the number of active sources. Keywords— diffusion field, source localization, finite rate of innovation, spatiotemporal sampling

Localization of point sources in wave fields from boundary measurements using new sensing principle

We address the problem of localizing point sources in 3D from boundary measurements of a wave field. Recently, we proposed the sensing principle which allows extracting volumetric samples of the unknown source distribution from the boundary measurements. The extracted samples allow a non-iterative reconstruction algorithm that can recover the parameters of the source distribution projected on a...

Solving Inverse Source Problems for Sources with Arbitrary Shapes using Sensor Networks

Recently, the use of wireless sensor networks for environmental monitoring has been a topic of intensive research. The sensor nodes obtain spatiotemporal samples of physical fields over the region of interest. For most cases these fields are driven by well-known partial differential equations—the diffusion and wave equations for example—and this prior knowledge can be used to solve such physics...

The present paper deals with a toxin producing phytoplankton (TPP)-zooplankton interaction in spatial environment in thecontext of phytoplankton bloom. In the absence of diffusion the stability of the given system in terms of co-existence and hopf bifurcation has been discussed. After that TPP-zooplankton interaction is considered in spatiotemporal domain by assuming self diffusion in both popu...

MEG-based decoding of the spatiotemporal dynamics of visual category perception

Visual processing is a complex task which is best investigated using sensitive multivariate analysis methods that can capture representation-specific brain activity over both time and space. In this study, we applied a multivariate decoding algorithm to MEG data of subjects engaged in passive viewing of images of faces, scenes, bodies and tools. We used reconstructed source-space time courses a...
